Susannah York (9 January 1939 – 15 January 2011) was a British actress known for her roles in film, stage, and television. She won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for 'They Shoot Horses, Don't They?' (1969), received Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for the same role, and won Best Actress at Cannes for 'Images' (1972). Appointed an Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1991. Her notable films in the 1960s established her international reputation as 'the blue-eyed English rose'.
