Story
During the Cold War, five highly-trained KGB agents are dispatched to the West to assassinate Soviet dissidents on Christmas Day. To thwart this scheme, an American agent infiltrates Soviet intelligence and aims to obtain information from a Russian computer, known as 'Enigma', used for communication by Soviet intelligence. Alex Holbeck, a defector recruited by the CIA in Paris, is sent to East Berlin to steal Enigma's scrambler. Upon arrival, Holbeck finds that his contacts have been arrested and the KGB is aware of his presence. He seeks refuge with Karen Reinhardt, his former lover and a lawyer, who provides him a safe house. Meanwhile, Holbeck is unaware that the CIA already possesses the scrambler and he has been used as bait to convince the Soviets they don't have it. A complex web unfolds involving Holbeck's past relationship with Karen, her seduction of a Russian agent for information, and his race against time to prevent the assassinations.
