Story

In Los Angeles, 1928, Christine Collins (Angelina Jolie), a telephone switchboard operator and single mother, returns home to find her nine-year-old son Walter missing. After five months of relentless searching by Christine and the police, a boy fitting Walter's description is found in Illinois. The LAPD reunites Christine with the boy amidst public fanfare, but she insists he isn't her son. Dismissed as either a liar or hysterical, Christine joins a minister in publicly criticizing the Police Department, leading to their retaliation against her. Meanwhile, a police officer discovers a Canadian youth at a dilapidated ranch who claims to know what happened to Walter.
